London Book Fair and Space Between.

Well i'm back from the most recent London times. This time from bugging the marketing and sales teams of publishers at The London Book Fair in Earls Court. I have no idea if anything will come from it but i gave it my best shot and handed out a lot of self promotion items.
It was a fun few days with friends if nothing else!

Here's our little stand...

Can you spot my book?!

We did get to impulsively get into a sold out gig in islington while there, by buying our way onto the guest list from a hilarious yet shady guy. It was a brilliant night. As you can see in the picture below the band was Dry the River! I've seen them a few times now. I think this was the best one possibly...?

I did manage to do a bit of sketching, mainly on the tube. Which turned out to be more difficult than i first would have thought....

I also did a bit of doodling while waiting for food to arrive or on other trains...

In other news!

I mentioned last time a bit on this exhibition i've got work into in a few weeks time...well here it is.... It's called Space Between and it promises to be a really good night. Brilliantly hosted in the barn part of one of my favourite local pubs in cheltenham, The Frog and Fiddle. I'm really excited and looking forward to it!

If you are able to, please swing by!

That's all for now! Thanks for reading.

Promotion, Wes and Hockney.

Okay so this week i finished off some more self promotion for The London Book Fair in a weeks time.
I made a set of postcards to act as bigger and less loose-able business cards. They are all double sided with one side being an image and the other my contact information.

I made four special sets of these, that are tied with book binding string and attached to a smaller business card, for the first four i think need them a them at the book fair.

So now i have 18 Tired Eyes/3:59AM copies and these. As well as the usual normal business cards, badge sets and older postcards.

You can see them all neatly stacked up below.

As well as self promo makes, this week has been full of other lovely things. Most notably, the Wes Anderson classic Rushmore of which i saw when i was in school but recently discovered the subtle joys of again.

I drew a little doodle of the main characters after watching it for the third time in two weeks, this time with my sister as we are home for a week of the easter break together.

Bill Murray is brilliant in it. He plays such an amusing character.

Another great thing this week was getting to finally see the David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy in London.
I wanted to see it ever since i heard it was going to start months ago; It looked so interesting. And that it was. I would tell anyone with an interest in the countryside and/or colour to go! (The two aspects i enjoyed the most) But alas it's over now. I managed to get to it on a crazy impulsive at 1 on a wednesday afternoon with an to attempt to drive to london with my housemate on the 2nd to last day.
A two hour drive to a one hour lost drive round Uxbridge/Hayes, then eventually into a two hour que, we got in. It was worth it. Amazing! TREES ARE PINK. They really are.

I am off to run through a wood now.
The flyer pictured is for a exhibition i am taking part in early next month. More on that soon!

Have an excellant week :)

PRINTED ON HAL

Well this week has been making promo book week. Last weekend i decided that my comic wasn't going to be done to a good enough standard for the London Book Fair i'm going to in a few weeks, so i needed to make a nice piece of self promotion to give out. Which i think will actually be a better thing to take anyway!
It's two books in one though! With two front covers...one Tired Eyes (portfolio work) and the other 3:59AM (some pages to act as a preview for 4AM my current project. Geddit?!) You have to flip it over to read both bits. I brought 35 sheets of amazing Snowdon 130gsm paper in A1 at 25p a sheet and then had to cut and fold it down to 140 sheets of A3. Which took some time....
After battling with InDesign. I eventually found out it doesn't actually do saddle stitch booklet printing with 1 signature. So it was back to photoshop where PDF's were to big of a file for the printer, which then wouldn't print correctly double sided. So it was a case of manually doing everything. THANKS TECHNOLOGY!

The printer is called HAL by the way. Me and my friend named it after a combination of us recently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey and thinking every red light was HAL and the printer being VERY temperamental. It's funny cause it's caught on and now it's just what everyone calls it. I can't say mean things about HAL anymore though because it was a star once working properly, and steadily printed 200 double spreads for me while i cut and folded them.

I was also nursing a slight hangover from a friends birthday the night before. Turns out calmly folding and cutting and measuring is a good hangover cure for me. And it was a lovely sunset. I really like the studio when it's quiet and sunny on a friday afternoon.
Fresh from HAL...
Waiting for the covers to finish printing...
20 books stapled and trimmed straight!

So now this weekend i'm sat with 20 lovely handmade books nearby. A successful week.
It's especially good to see the 4AM pages in there as this book is the same size as the comic will be printed when it's done.

Anyway i need to cook some dinner.
Thanks for reading!
