PRINTED ON HAL

Well this week has been making promo book week. Last weekend i decided that my comic wasn't going to be done to a good enough standard for the London Book Fair i'm going to in a few weeks, so i needed to make a nice piece of self promotion to give out. Which i think will actually be a better thing to take anyway!
It's two books in one though! With two front covers...one Tired Eyes (portfolio work) and the other 3:59AM (some pages to act as a preview for 4AM my current project. Geddit?!) You have to flip it over to read both bits. I brought 35 sheets of amazing Snowdon 130gsm paper in A1 at 25p a sheet and then had to cut and fold it down to 140 sheets of A3. Which took some time....
After battling with InDesign. I eventually found out it doesn't actually do saddle stitch booklet printing with 1 signature. So it was back to photoshop where PDF's were to big of a file for the printer, which then wouldn't print correctly double sided. So it was a case of manually doing everything. THANKS TECHNOLOGY!

The printer is called HAL by the way. Me and my friend named it after a combination of us recently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey and thinking every red light was HAL and the printer being VERY temperamental. It's funny cause it's caught on and now it's just what everyone calls it. I can't say mean things about HAL anymore though because it was a star once working properly, and steadily printed 200 double spreads for me while i cut and folded them.

I was also nursing a slight hangover from a friends birthday the night before. Turns out calmly folding and cutting and measuring is a good hangover cure for me. And it was a lovely sunset. I really like the studio when it's quiet and sunny on a friday afternoon.
Fresh from HAL...
Waiting for the covers to finish printing...
20 books stapled and trimmed straight!

So now this weekend i'm sat with 20 lovely handmade books nearby. A successful week.
It's especially good to see the 4AM pages in there as this book is the same size as the comic will be printed when it's done.

Anyway i need to cook some dinner.
Thanks for reading!

I've Been Busy...

Hi!
The panic set in this week about how much stock i need to make since The Whatnot Tree (the crafting trio i'm in) are booked into two (eek) large conventions this autumn! I wanted to see how long it took to make some of the creatures i make in batch.
It actually doesn't take too long. I spent two day solid making stuff, the only problem is after those two days i needed a break! So i think my plan now is gonna be little and often rather than mad panic then do no more for a week. I think it'll be less stressful that way hopefully!

I made 8 Macot Mice, 9 (so now i have 13) Snish Owl brooches and a large Snish Owl pillow! After i was covered in clay, felt, thread and varnish...Here are some progress shots...
The hand that creates mice...
Making my brooches in batch...
I watched about 30 episodes of the simpsons while i worked!
The finishing touches...
Ready to be stuffed :)
I'll be back with finished stock pics when i've got a larger collection :D The Whatnot Tree are having a craft day together tomorrow, so hopefully that'll be sooner rather than later!

Thanks for Reading!
Have a good week!

There are birds on that Lampshade...

Hi Hi,

My uni summer work is going slightly wrong and it's loosing direction a bit. So i've turned to other creative outputs for a while hah...
Introducing the bird lamp!
I've wanted a standing lamp for aggggges but they are expensive! Anyway i found a lampshade in the sale part of a home store for a fiver and got the actual lamp part off my grandma (she had it in her attic).

But it needed decoration ;D

Here it is plain and simple. I added the blanket stitch and beads round the bottom myself...

It's quite fun sewing onto something you don't usually get to!

And then taarRR DARR...

In other news! The lettuce in my veg plot is ready and looking finnnneee. There are also some courgettes coming through AT LAST ahh hah!

Bye for now :)

Top Hatted Fellars

hey!

This week i have be avoiding my uni project and doing anything but it. Hence i have made 10 new Lobby's! Going a slightly different route with them i have been making them each a top hat and decorating each one in a unique way. They each have a name too, which is written on a hand drawn tag each Lobby comes with. Hopefully people will want to adopt one of these individual little guys and give them a homely place to sit :)
here are some pictures...

They are all for sale in THE TEE SHOP over on Etsy.
I would really love it if you could go and have a look!

tar very much for reading have a great rest of the week :D

Badges and Birds!

heellllo,

I have a few new creations of mine to introduce to you :D

Firstly Tee Birds! like some other birds charms i made but BIGGER! and with a hand printed tag each. So obviously BETTER! here here...

I'm selling them at £3 each :)

Next-ly...BADGES! fun badge times :D

I also put them into to sets and sell them like that...I've sold the turquoise and the dark blue sets already on a craft stall, so it's going good :) I have plans to make more!

To finish, here is a pic i just thought was quite nice of how i like to work if i run out of room on my desk (this happens often!)...

...and my bottle collection hahah, there's something classy about a fake flower in a cider bottle don't you think? heh. I just like the brilliantly lovely colours they make when the sun shines through them :)

have a nice day,
