I'm Alive!

Hello!

I'm so sorry for such a lapse in blog updates of late. Time has flown by in a gust of graduating from university, moving out, moving back home, moving back out again, exhibitions, job seeking, house decorating, mud covered festivals and turning 22.
I'm hoping it's all beginning to settle back down again soon so life can return to normal and i can get more work done!
Our new house has two spare rooms, one of which we put a tent up in (gonna make it like Richie's tent in The Royal Tenenbaums!). The other we are using as a studio. Which is going to be great! I'm going to have a place to go and work like the studio at university was. I think like minded people can appreciate the need for a change of scene when working and one that's not a foot away from where you crash every night too....

Since my last post lots has happened. Some of which was an exhibition my friends organised in our town. It was a lot of fun and a great experience.

We made some good contacts and sold some work. So i count it as a success!

Role on 'Departure lounge: 5 Years Later' hahah

I've also been doing commissions and i've also got some exciting things lined up for this November in time for Thought Bubble 2012. I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into work on them in my new studio space!

My lovely lingering comic project, 4AM. Has, hopefully understandably, trailed off of late. I'm also really looking forward to getting that wrapped up and printed! I'm so sorry to anyone who has been expecting out by now. I'm reminded of 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Life has well and truly been getting in the way. The sequence below is from it. It's one of the many pages on line art i've got to do the colour layer for...
(the image at the top of this post is one of the also many colour adjusted and finished pages from it. So i'm getting there!)

Anyway, hope i've somewhat explained my absence.
(There you go Tabi :) I've updated!)

I'm back to work!

Cheers for reading!
Hope you have a lovely week :)

Setting the Scene.

Well my comic 4AM is coming along...again. It seems to stop and start quite a bit. But the last few days i have finished off some pages i actually like.
The image above is the opening double spread to the story and it was a fun page to draw. Ink is a lovely thing.

The studio has been quite lovely too lately. Working there in the afternoons when it gets quieter and the sun goes down, all the roof tops go an amazing orange that my camera can't pick up (the car in the picture to the left is mine parked outside my student house- it's a hell of a comute as you can see).

The other night the campus chapel had acoustic music on from the local scene playing there. So me and some friends went along to draw. It was a really great evening. The acoustics were brilliant!

I recommend them all :)

Have a great rest of the week!

Layers.

Well the last 2 weeks have knocked me out of my normal routine in several different ways, but today progress on my 40 page comic started to feel back on track.

So i thought i'd update with a few progress shots...

The picture above is the growing mound of paper for this comic...

And below is a colour layer for a double spread i've just done. I'm working the lines and colours traditionally, but to keep things loose, on separate layers. As you can see in the first picture i work on my light box to do this. It's quite a fun way of working.

That's all for now. Gotta sleep a little before i get back to work.

4AM Promo.

A little promo piece for my biggest project yet i'm currently in the middle of. My 40 page comic 4am.
Featuring the characters in the comic, all of which are pre-existing ones of mine.

I'm going to the printer's on friday to feel some paper. I want it to be a really nice object in it's own right. So it's gonna need some really nice paper.
The story is essentially about change and it's kind of got a weird and surreal element to it. It takes place over about half an hour with 6 character's in groups of 2. They don't intertwine, the connection is it's all happening at the same time. Oh! and it's wordless.

I've Been Busy...

Hi!
The panic set in this week about how much stock i need to make since The Whatnot Tree (the crafting trio i'm in) are booked into two (eek) large conventions this autumn! I wanted to see how long it took to make some of the creatures i make in batch.
It actually doesn't take too long. I spent two day solid making stuff, the only problem is after those two days i needed a break! So i think my plan now is gonna be little and often rather than mad panic then do no more for a week. I think it'll be less stressful that way hopefully!

I made 8 Macot Mice, 9 (so now i have 13) Snish Owl brooches and a large Snish Owl pillow! After i was covered in clay, felt, thread and varnish...Here are some progress shots...
The hand that creates mice...
Making my brooches in batch...
I watched about 30 episodes of the simpsons while i worked!
The finishing touches...
Ready to be stuffed :)
I'll be back with finished stock pics when i've got a larger collection :D The Whatnot Tree are having a craft day together tomorrow, so hopefully that'll be sooner rather than later!

Thanks for Reading!
Have a good week!

We are Nowhere and it's Now W.I.P plus veg!

hello!

I've had time to get back to drawing for myself for a while now and it's ace :) Amongst other things i did a full length painting of 3 of my characters. Fish, Bowl and Alex.
This time i remembered to photograph the whole process! So here it is! I hope you find it interesting :)

First the sketch on some random paper...

then 'light-boxed' onto watercolour paper...

then finishing touches and it's done :)

On a random side note...I finally got round to sorting out and re-seeding my veg plot hahah! Me and my dad built it last year together and the crop was hilarious...lots of radishes no one really wanted and everything else was really small because i didn't want to thin them out. THIS YEAR WILL BE BETTER! :D

That's all guys :)
Have a great weekend!
